Using LUKE
Using LUKE takes less than a minute. In short: insert the label from the front, slide the button forward, and the heated wire does the rest. The LED lights up while cutting and turns off when it's done. For a full step-by-step guide, visit «How to LUKE».
LUKE works on all standard label materials – woven, printed, and satin. If it's a standard care label, LUKE can handle it.
Yes – just extend the label with a small piece of tape so it feeds through cleanly. That's all it takes.
LUKE's heated wire spans exactly 50 mm – that's the full width of the device. Labels wider than that won't fit through cleanly. In practice, the vast majority of care labels are well within this limit.
LUKE handles up to four layers at once. If your label has more, simply cut it in multiple passes – separate the layers and run LUKE through them in batches.
It depends on the label material. Most labels are done in 2-3 seconds. Thicker or denser materials can take up to 10 seconds. The LED tells you exactly when it's done. Once it turns off, the wire has cut through cleanly.
Yes. Cotton, wool, polyester, blends… LUKE works on any fabric and any label type.
No. The heated wire only cuts through the label, the fabric is never touched. No fraying, no holes, nothing left behind.
Not at all. LUKE works on clothes, home textiles, kids' plush toys… if it has a label, LUKE can handle it.
Take a quick photo before removing the label if you want to keep the care instructions. We're also working on the LUKE app to make saving and organizing them even easier.
No. Always make sure the label is completely dry before cutting. Cutting wet or damp labels can affect the quality of the cut and the performance of the device.
Completely normal. The slider needs a firm pull to open the clamps all the way – just keep going until it clicks into position. Once it's locked open, insert the label and you're good to go.
Safety
Like any heated cutting tool, LUKE can release a small amount of fumes when cutting through label material. This is normal and not harmful under regular use. We recommend using LUKE in a ventilated space, opening a window is all it takes.
Absolutely! In fact, kids are one of the main reasons LUKE exists. Anyone who's ever tried to convince a five-year-old that the itchy label will “stop bothering them eventually” knows exactly what we mean. LUKE is safe to use around the house, and works beautifully on children's clothing and plush toys. That said, like any tool with a heated element, it's one for the grown-ups, keep it out of little hands and let the adults handle the cutting.
Tech & Care
LUKE runs on three AA batteries (not included in the package). We recommend alkaline LR6 batteries for best performance. Rechargeable batteries work too, but may result in shorter cutting power between charges.
The wire is not user-replaceable. If your wire is broken, get in touch with us at support@luke-shop.com – we'll sort it out.
It depends on the label material and thickness, but you can expect to remove well over 140 labels on a single set of batteries. Thicker or denser labels require more cutting power and will drain the batteries faster.
No maintenance needed. With normal use, LUKE stays clean on its own. If a piece of label ever gets stuck inside the device, don't try to remove it yourself – just drop us a line at support@luke-shop.com and we'll walk you through it.
LUKE carries CE certification (EU), UKCA certification (UK), and is RoHS compliant. It is manufactured in the EU.
Please don't throw LUKE or its batteries in the general household bin. Both should be sorted for environmentally friendly recycling. EU customers: LUKE falls under Directive 2012/19/EU (electrical and electronic waste) and batteries under Directive 2006/66/EC. Check your local recycling guidelines or drop-off points for the easiest way to do this.
Troubleshooting
Slowly pull the slider back. This lets the wire work through the label. Then remove it. If it's really stuck, carefully pull the label out backwards.
Either the batteries aren't inserted correctly, or they need replacing.
One garment at a time, but if the label has multiple layers, LUKE handles up to four at once.
Stop using it straight away and reach out to us at support@luke-shop.com. Don't use a device that looks damaged – we'll make it right.
